Cesar Zimmerman was born in Curaçao, Netherlands Antilles, January 25,
1951. When you ask him when did he start painting, he answers; "Right
after I was born". He feels that this has to do with the talent he
inherited from the well-known Curaçao painter, Okalia, with whom he has
family ties.
Cheky, as he is called by his family and friends, is self-taught painter.
He calls his style 'Euro Caribbean' a combination of traditional subjects
with a modern interpretation. The subject he's inspired by the most are
the Dutch Antillean plantation houses, build during colonial times. He has
a special attraction for the way of life on the leeward islands in the
past. Cheky looks back on more than 25 years experience and exhibitions
all over the world. Exhibition sites include; The Netherlands, Puerto
Rico, Venezuela, Santo Domingo, Cuba, Guadeloupe, Anguilla and the ABC
Islands, Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. Cheky calls himself a rich painter,
not for the amount of money he made by selling my paintings, but because
of the quantity of paintings he sold. He loves to keep track of his
paintings and knows exactly where most of them are located.
Cheky works for Aqualectra (the water desalination & electricity
production company in Curaçao. He makes the manual artwork for the
advertisements of the company and has designed the logo. He hopes to be
able to live the rest of his life on Bonaire after he retires. He has
visited Bonaire regularly for more then 30 years and feels that this is
the place on earth that makes his heart sing.
